A car break-in in a Palm Coast neighborhood led to the arrest of two juveniles after detectives traced the stolen property through a social media video and recovered the items more than a week later. The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrests on May 13, 2026.
What Happened
On Sunday, May 3, FCSO deputies responded to the Union Court area following a report of a vehicle burglary. The victim told deputies that multiple custom fishing poles — valued at $1,550 — had been stolen from an unlocked truck parked in the driveway.
Detectives identified a suspect vehicle after locating a Snapchat video that appeared to show the stolen fishing poles. Through further investigation, they determined the vehicle had been in the Union Court area on the night of the burglary.
The Investigation and Arrests
On Tuesday, May 5, detectives interviewed two suspects — Jonathan Brown, 15, of Bunnell, and a 12-year-old from Palm Coast — with their mothers present. During the investigation, detectives recovered the stolen fishing poles from locations connected to the juveniles and returned the property to the victim.
On Wednesday, May 13, both juveniles were arrested on juvenile arrest orders for burglary of an unoccupied conveyance and grand theft. They were transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility for processing before being taken to the Volusia County Department of Juvenile Justice without incident.
What the Sheriff Said
Sheriff Rick Staly commented on the investigation and used the case to remind residents to secure their vehicles. “These juveniles went carhopping and turned a neighborhood into their hunting ground fishing hole, but our deputies and detectives reeled in the facts — from social media and surveillance video to the recovery of stolen property and the arrests,” he said. “If you leave your vehicle unlocked, you’re practically baiting thieves, so lock your car doors and take valuables inside. Hopefully, these juveniles will learn a lesson and get back on the right track.”
