Flagler County Emergency Management advises residents, businesses, and visitors that FEMA, in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) at 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4.
“Cellular phone customers will receive a message that will read: ‘THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed,’” said Emergency Management Director Jonathan Lord. “This is a national test, not a local test.”
This test is not driven by ALERTFlagler – users will still receive national tests, such as this one, even if they have opted out of portions of ALERTFlagler.
“Please do not cancel your ALERTFlagler notifications, as they are completely separate and unrelated,” Lord said. “This test is happening across the United States.”
The test will also affect television and radio broadcasts and will last about one minute. Again, no public action is required.
The test could be postponed until October 11 if there is widespread severe weather, or some other significant event.
