The defense attorney for Melvin Adona, the man Circuit Judge Dawn Nichols sentenced to 10 years in prison for the hit-and-run deaths of two people in Bunnell in 2023, is asking an appellate court to vacate the sentence and order a new sentencing hearing, but before a different judge. The defense argues Nichols committed a fundamental error, imposing sentence before hearing closing statements from the defense and the prosecution.
