Flagler County Chief Deputy Joseph Barile abruptly resigned today after serving in the position since January 2025. Sheriff Rick Staly said in a release that the agency will eliminate the administrative post to offset municipal and county budget shortfalls. There was no further explanation about Barile’s resignation, though in retrospect, his absence alongside the sheriff at a high-profile press conference two weeks ago may be telling.
