Flagler County Sheriff’s Office deputies made 10 arrests this past weekend between 6 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026, and 6 a.m. on Monday, August 17, 2026. Deputies handled 800 calls for service and made 135 traffic stops.
Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Trafficking Arrests; Firearm, IDs and Bank Cards Recovered
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office arrested two Jacksonville men after a traffic stop that began with an equipment violation and ended with deputies locating marijuana, a firearm, ammunition, and driver licenses and bank cards belonging to other people.
On Friday night, deputies attempted a traffic stop on a white Nissan on I-95 South near mile marker 290 after observing the vehicle driving with only one working headlight. The driver did not stop immediately and continued southbound before exiting at Palm Coast Parkway and eventually stopping at the Boulder Rock Shell gas station.
During the stop, deputies identified the driver as Desmond Washington, 20, of Jacksonville, and the passenger as Darius Caldwell, 27, of Jacksonville. Deputies saw two clear bags containing a green leafy substance in plain view and smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle.
During a search of the vehicle, deputies located multiple bags of marijuana, a digital scale with marijuana residue, unused plastic bags, several used bags with marijuana residue, ammunition, a loaded Canik 9mm pistol hidden under the rear passenger seat, and several bank cards and drivers’ licenses belonging to other people who were not inside the vehicle.

“This is exactly why we enforce traffic laws as criminals drive the roadways and what starts out as a minor traffic violation can turn into felony arrests,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “I commend our deputy’s for looking past the traffic violation. Bring your dope down I-95 into Flagler County and you will be checking into the Green Roof Inn.”
Deputies arrested Washington for possession of drug paraphernalia/equipment, possession of a controlled substance without prescription over 20 grams, possession with intent to sell, and possession of five or more identity documents. He was transported him to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, where he was later released on an $11,000 bond.

Palm Coast Woman Arrested for DUI After ‘See Something, Say Something’ Call
On Sunday afternoon, deputies arrested a Palm Coast woman for DUI after a concerned citizen ‘saw something and said something” about a woman who was possibly intoxicated and had damaged her vehicle after hitting a handicap sign.
Upon arrival, deputies found Connie Collins, 63, of Palm Coast, sitting in the driver’s seat of a black Nissan with the engine running. Deputies also saw a clear plastic cup with a dark liquid inside the vehicle and smelled alcohol coming from Collins. When Collins opened the driver’s door, she dumped the liquid out and said she was making room for more ice.
Deputies observed Collins had trouble keeping her balance and had watery, bloodshot eyes. Collins refused to participate in standardized field sobriety exercises. Deputies arrested Collins for DUI and transported her to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility.
Collins told detention deputies she had “Lemon Ice Teas and mozzarella sticks” at a bowling alley and drank one bottle of wine at home before deputies contacted her. She initially agreed to provide a breath sample but was unable to complete the test and was additionally charged with refusal to submit to DUI testing.

“A citizen who ‘saw something and said something’ by calling is the reason this ended in a parking lot instead of a head-on crash,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “Don’t be so stupid and arrogant for your safety and the safety of others by driving drunk. Call for a sober ride or designate a driver before getting behind the wheel in Flagler County. Otherwise, we are coming for your keys and you’re going to jail.”
Deputies arrested Collins for DUI and refusal to submit to DUI testing. Collins was released on a $500 bond.
