Guns, Drugs, and a Rear-End Crash: Flagler County Deputies Make 13 Arrests Over the Weekend

The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office made 13 arrests between 6 p.m. Friday, June 12, and 6 a.m. Monday, June 15, 2026, handling 699 calls for service and conducting 100 traffic stops. Two incidents stood out from the weekend.

Traffic Stop Uncovers Drugs and a Loaded Gun

A routine traffic stop near State Road 100 and McCormick Drive in Palm Coast on Sunday evening ended with a 21-year-old man facing four criminal charges after deputies found marijuana, prescription pills, and a loaded firearm in his vehicle.

A deputy on proactive patrol stopped a Hyundai for a traffic violation. As the deputy approached the car, he detected the smell of marijuana. Neither the driver nor his passenger had a medical marijuana card.

MAKIH SIMPSON

While searching the vehicle, the driver — identified as Makih Simpson, 21, of Palm Coast — told deputies there was marijuana in the driver’s door and a handgun under his seat. Deputies found two used marijuana cigarettes and a loaded Glock 43x beneath the seat. A backpack in the car contained additional marijuana divided into several bags, along with a grinder. In total, deputies recovered 161 grams of illegal marijuana. The backpack also held two loose oxycodone pills. Simpson told deputies the pills were left over from a past injury and that he no longer had a prescription for them.

“Narcotics and a loaded gun are a dangerous combination, and this guy had both,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “If you’re going to drive around Flagler County with a backpack full of dope and a gun under your seat, expect to see red and blue lights behind you and a trip to the Green Roof Inn.”

Simpson was charged with possession of marijuana over 20 grams, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility and later released on a $2,500 bond.

Rear-End Crash Leads to DUI Arrest

A Ponte Vedra man was arrested for driving under the influence after rear-ending another vehicle at the State Road 100 and Interstate 95 overpass.

Deputies were called to the scene after the driver of the struck vehicle reported being hit from behind while stopped at a light. The reporting driver told deputies he believed the van’s driver had been drinking and asked them to check on him.

When deputies made contact with the driver of the van — Jason Dall, 51, of Ponte Vedra — they observed an open Mike’s Hard Lemonade in his door, glassy and watery eyes, the smell of fruity alcohol, and unsteadiness when he stepped out of the vehicle.

After deputies finished investigating the crash, Dall declined to answer questions and refused to perform field sobriety exercises. At the jail, he also refused to provide a breath sample.

“If you are stupid enough to wash down your afternoon with a hard lemonade and then get in a car and rear-end another driver, don’t act surprised when your poor decisions lead to you being arrested,” said Sheriff Staly. “This drunk driver was lucky he did not hurt or kill someone or himself. Now this guy can sober up with some hard time at the Green Roof Inn.”

Dall was charged with driving under the influence and transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, where he is being held on a $7,500 bond.
