Flagler County Deputy Fired After Arrest for Domestic Battery — Less Than a Year on the Job

Probationary Deputy Kaleem Chohan was arrested Sunday by South Daytona police following an altercation with a family member. The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office moved swiftly to suspend and then terminate his employment.

The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) has terminated the employment of probationary Deputy Kaleem Chohan after he was arrested on Sunday by the South Daytona Police Department on a charge of misdemeanor domestic battery. The incident involved an altercation with a family member. Chohan was immediately suspended following the arrest, and his employment was officially terminated shortly after.

The arrest

South Daytona police arrested Chohan over the weekend after a domestic disturbance involving a family member. The charge is misdemeanor domestic battery. Chohan is currently being held at the Volusia County Jail on a $100 bond. He had joined the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office on April 30, 2025, meaning he was employed for just under one year at the time of his arrest.

The sheriff’s office response

The FCSO acted quickly, suspending Chohan immediately after learning of the arrest and revoking his appointment as a deputy. His employment was formally terminated shortly after the suspension took effect.

“His failure to de-escalate as he had been trained reflect a serious lapse in judgment that falls far below the standards expected of an employee. This kind of behavior will not be tolerated and erodes public confidence. Deputies are expected to exercise sound judgment, self-control, and professionalism on and off duty.”

— Chief of Staff Mark Strobridge, Flagler County Sheriff’s Office

The charge against Chohan is an allegation — no conviction has been established. More information about the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office is available at flaglersheriff.com.
