A Flagler County Fire Rescue leader has graduated from a statewide program designed to develop the next generation of fire service officers.
Battalion Chief Brady Barry recently completed the Emergency Services Leadership Institute, a two-year program sponsored and hosted by the Florida Fire Chiefs’ Association. The program was created to address present-day leadership issues that affect mid-level through chief fire officers.
“It was a great experience going through this program and having the opportunity to learn from subject matter experts within the targeted curriculum,” Barry said. “It provides me with new tools to bring to the table.”
The program requires participants to complete six of seven available areas of study. Those areas include Human Resources and Labor Relations, Personal Qualities, Leadership, and the Organization, Government Relations and Public Policy, Marketing Fire and Emergency Medical Services, Finance and Budgeting, Emergency Management, and Community Risk Reduction.
According to the Florida Fire Chiefs’ Association website, while each course can serve as an independent educational experience, they work together as a foundation for emerging fire services leaders as they advance toward promotion within their agencies. Graduates of the program can also use the coursework they completed to achieve Fire Officer 3 and Fire Officer 4 certifications from the State Fire Marshal’s Bureau of Fire Standards and Training.
Fire Rescue Chief Michael Tucker praised Barry’s accomplishment. “Battalion Chief Barry’s commitment to professional growth and servant leadership is exactly what strengthens our organization and the service we provide our community,” Tucker said. “His ESLI achievement reflects the high standards we set for our leadership team and the investment we make in developing our people.”
