Flagler County Students Receive Sheriff’s Great Kid Awards

The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office presented Sheriff Rick Staly’s “Great Kid” Award to exceptional Flagler Schools students on Nov. 5.

Investigative Services Division Chief Agustin Rodriguez and Youth Services Division Commander Jennifer Nawrocki visited the schools to present the awards for September 2025 alongside school resource deputies.

Award Program

The “Great Kid” Awards are presented each month during the school year to three students—one each at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. Recipients are chosen because they respect their peers, help others, work hard in academics, and represent themselves and their school well. School resource deputies and school employees nominate the students.

“A big congratulations to these three outstanding students,” said Sheriff Staly. “They were chosen as ‘Great Kids’ because their efforts, achievements, and attitude do not go unnoticed. We’re excited to be able to honor these students and recognize them for being great kids.”

Elementary School Winner

Johnathan Ohree, a fourth grader at Old Kings Elementary School, received the elementary school-level award for being a responsible student, coming to school prepared, and always giving his best effort in class.

According to his school resource deputies and school employees who nominated him, Ohree “makes good choices, sets a positive example for his classmates, and can always be trusted to do the right thing. He is a hard worker and strives to be a good friend and classmate to others. At car riders in the afternoon, you can count on him to be attentively listening for his car rider number and always leaves us with a ‘have a great day!’ before heading to his car!”

Middle School Winner

Mia Caccavale, a seventh grader at Imagine School at Town Center, received the middle school-level award because she is a role model for her excellence both inside and outside the classroom.

A group of seven people, including two girls (one holding a certificate), two women (one holding a baby), a man in a suit, and a uniformed police officer, stand smiling in front of an "Imagine School" banner

According to her school resource deputies and school employees who nominated her, Caccavale “embodies our core values of respect, responsibility, empathy, and open-mindedness. Before the safety patrol program was officially established, she took the initiative to volunteer her time and excel in the role, showing true leadership and dependability. Her kindness and positive influence are so impactful that students often ask for Mia to walk them to class, a reflection of the trust and admiration she inspires in her peers.”

High School Winner

Ava Hatten, a junior at Flagler Palm Coast High School, received the high school-level award for her kindness, respect, and leadership.

Throughout her time at FPC, Ava has consistently achieved success, and we are proud to have her as a valued member of our FPC Family!”
