Flagler County officials are advising residents that the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has an ongoing repaving project on U.S. 1 between Palm Coast Parkway and Pellicer Creek – nearly to the St. Johns County line. The estimated projection completion is slated for the end of the calendar year.
“This project does not include work on the roundabouts at the West Matanzas Woods Parkway or Old Kings Road intersections,” according to FDOT. “(The work will) extend the lifespan of the existing roadway. Improvements include minor drainage enhancements, updated roadway signage, and pavement markings. In addition, the in-ground sensors located at the weigh station will be replaced.”
The $8 million project began earlier this month. The contractor is P&S Paving.
Motorists should expect intermittent daytime lane closures throughout the project, an FDOT release said. Uneven pavement is a common, unavoidable roadway condition in resurfacing projects, as the contractor must apply different layers of asphalt during various construction phases.
“Motorists are asked to use extra caution while driving through the work zone,” FDOT advises. “Drivers are encouraged to follow posted signage, remain alert, and exercise caution while traveling through the work zone.”
The construction schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances, according to FDOT. For more information, visit the project website at www.cflroads.com/project/445216-2.
