Global Tech Leader Invests in Palm Coast; DC BLOX data hub is coming to Town Center with Google as first client

The City of Palm Coast is proud to announce a transformative economic development project that places our community at the forefront of international digital infrastructure. Digital infrastructure company DC BLOX is building a state-of-the-art subsea cable landing station and data center campus in Palm Coast’s Town Center, where the first fiber-optic cable will be owned by global technology leader Google.

This project marks the first phase of a multi-cable buildout that will ultimately house up to eight subsea cables, positioning Palm Coast as a vital interconnection point for global internet traffic. The first cable, called Sol, will connect directly to Europe, vastly expanding international bandwidth and digital capacity throughout the region.

“This is a landmark moment for Palm Coast, Flagler Beach, and Flagler County, and it’s a clear signal that we are a community of the future, investing in our economic development and vitality,” said Vice Mayor Theresa Carli Pontieri. “The Sol subsea cable is more than just infrastructure; it’s a gateway to unprecedented global connectivity that will attract further high-caliber industries that our residents deserve. We are not just putting Palm Coast and our community on the map; we are building a direct route to the world’s digital economy, ensuring a prosperous and dynamic future.”

Subsea cables carry approximately 95% of all international communications, quietly powering the global internet by transmitting data between continents. These high-speed fiber lines, laid on the ocean floor, are essential to everything from streaming video and cloud services to banking, logistics, and innovation.

DC BLOX’s new cable landing station and data center will:

  • Provide power and support for subsea cables entering the U.S.
  • Serve as a vital communications exchange point
  • Host secure colocation space for cable partners and local businesses
  • Deliver next-generation connectivity to support Palm Coast’s tech-forward growth

The City of Palm Coast and its partners are committed to keeping residents informed and addressing common questions about the project. The facility is designed to be low-impact and community-friendly. It uses a recycled refrigerant cooling system, so water usage will be minimal, limited to restrooms and basic staff needs. It will operate quietly, with only occasional generator testing, and is much smaller than traditional hyperscale data centers. From a security standpoint, the risk is extremely low, as concerns in this industry typically focus on undersea cable interference, not the land-based infrastructure.

This project brings meaningful, long-term benefits to Palm Coast:

  • Diversified Tax Base: A major commercial investment like this helps shift the city’s tax burden away from residential properties by boosting commercial property tax contributions.
  • Job Creation: While the workforce will be modest in size, the project brings well-paying, skilled jobs to Town Center without adding significant traffic to local roads.
  • Future Opportunities: The presence of global leaders like Google and DC BLOX sends a strong message: Palm Coast is open for opportunity. Their investment puts the city on the radar for other tech-driven businesses seeking a connected, forward-thinking community.

“This is a fantastic announcement for the city’s tech sector, and a catalyst for high-tech growth,” said Craig McKinney, Palm Coast’s Economic Development Manager. “From data analytics and cybersecurity to cloud computing and AI, these industries rely on global connectivity. This project puts Palm Coast in a prime position for future advancements.”

With the Google-owned Sol cable already in motion, construction on the DC BLOX facility will begin soon. The City of Palm Coast will continue to provide updates and engage with residents, business leaders, and partners throughout the project’s development.
