Joining Forces with Local, State and Georgia Partners Two Fugitives Caught by Flagler County Sheriff

By-Line: Joseph Bober, Public Information Office, FCSO

Although they traveled outside of the county, two fugitives with active arrest warrants recently learned that they can run but can’t hide from the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.

On June 10, the FCSO Fugitive Unit received a violation of probation warrant for Andrew Jones II, 24, of Bunnell, a fugitive on sex offender probation. While searching for Jones, deputies determined he had discarded his ankle monitor.

Through investigative means and with assistance from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, deputies tracked Jones to a residence in Waynesville, Georgia. On June 26, the Fugitive Unit traveled to Georgia and coordinated with the Brantley County Sheriff’s Office to locate and apprehend him. Jones was arrested by BCSO deputies and transported to the Brantley County Jail.

He was then extradited to Flagler County and transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, where he is being held without bond.

Earlier this year, the Problem Area Crime Enforcement Unit conducted career offender checks in Flagler County and submitted affidavits to the State Attorney’s Office for any career offenders who were in violation and could not be located, seeking arrest warrants.

On July 1, FCSO received a warrant for Bruce Schelberger, 48, of Palm Coast, for failure to register as a habitual violent career criminal. On the same day, PACE detectives located Schelberger’s vehicle at a motel in Ormond Beach, Florida, and coordinated with the Ormond Beach Police Department to locate and apprehend him. Schelberger was arrested by OBPD officers and transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail, where he was later released on bond.

“Whether they flee the county or even the state, fugitives can’t escape the long arm of the law,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “These two fugitives learned the hard way that the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office works with local, state, and federal partners to bring criminals to justice no matter how far they run.”

In addition to Schelberger, the PACE Unit obtained warrants for two other career criminals who were not located: Rooney Thomas, 72, a transient with a last known address in Palm Coast, and Regan Joss, 47, with a last known address in Palm Coast.
