Flagler County Officials Notify Residents Small, Temporary Closure of SR A1A Near Pier on Friday

Flagler County officials are notifying residents that there will be a brief closure of State Road A1A on or around August 30 during the early morning hours – depending on the weather – from just north of State Road 100 to South 6th Street. The closure is only expected to be in effect two to four hours and a detour will be in place.

The closure is necessary for public safety as equipment for the Army Corps of Engineers beach nourishment project is moved and prepared for demobilization.

“The equipment needs to be moved back around the Pier to its south as they have officially finished dredging and pumping sand,” said County Coastal Engineering Administrator Ansley Wren-Key. “Army Corps and Weeks Marine did a great job for us.”

The next steps include installing sand fencing, planting the dunes, and placing protective rope barriers.

“We appreciate everybody’s patience and caution around the construction,” Wren-Key said. “Please respect the enhanced dunes and use the official crosswalks to access the beautiful new wide beach.”
