A registered sexual predator who was arrested less than 12 hours after being released from state prison has now been sentenced to an additional 10 years in prison, followed by 15 years of sex offender probation, according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.
Gabriel Pardo, 45, was arrested June 19 after walking more than six miles overnight to the Palm Coast home where he had previously abused multiple children, rather than reporting to his probation officer as required.
How the Case Unfolded
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Pardo was released from a Florida State Correctional Facility and dropped off at a bus stop on State Road 100 in Flagler Beach at about 10:17 p.m. on Thursday, June 18. As a condition of his release, he was fitted with a GPS ankle monitor and told to report to the Florida Department of Corrections Probation and Parole Office in Bunnell by 8 a.m. the next morning.
Pardo did not report as required. His GPS monitor showed he had instead walked more than 6 miles from the bus stop to the home where he committed his previous offenses, which was about 10 miles from the probation office. Probation officers alerted Sheriff’s Office detectives early that Friday morning, and the Major Case Unit and Real Time Crime Center worked with state probation officials to track his movements. Detectives located Pardo walking on Old Kings Road and took him into custody.
When detectives interviewed Pardo, he initially denied going to the home. He then said he had gone to the area only to orient himself and claimed he did not know he was required to report to the probation office that morning. He said he had no intention of contacting the victims. Detectives found no indication that Pardo entered the residence or made contact with anyone there, and later determined the victims no longer live at that location.
Background on the Case
Pardo is a registered sexual predator stemming from a 2018 case in which he repeatedly sexually abused two children in his care over several years and molested a third child during a sleepover. In 2019, he pleaded no contest and was found guilty of two counts of sexual battery by a custodian of a victim older than 12 and younger than 18, and one count of sexual battery. He was sentenced to eight years in state prison, followed by 15 years of sex offender probation. His release on June 18 marked the start of that probation term.
Deputies arrested Pardo for violation of probation and booked him into the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, where he was held without bond.
Sentencing
Following his arrest, Pardo was sentenced to an additional 10 years in the Florida Department of Corrections, to be followed by 15 years of sex offender probation.
Sheriff Rick Staly commented on the case. “This is swift justice at its finest,” Staly said. “This case demonstrates what can be accomplished through coordinated efforts, effective communication, and a rapid response. Every person involved played an important role in ensuring this dirtbag was held accountable and swiftly returned to prison after violating the conditions of his prison release and probation.”
At the time of the original arrest in June, Staly also offered a pointed assessment of Pardo. “This pervert, convicted rapist, pedophile, and predator, couldn’t even make it one night out of prison before he attempted to contact the victims he assaulted,” Staly said. “He clearly didn’t learn anything in prison. Thanks to his ankle monitor and the fast work of our detectives and parole officers, his first day of freedom ended behind bars at the Green Roof Inn, which is exactly where this predator belongs for the rest of his life.”
