An open house on April 23 will give residents a chance to see the trail design in detail and ask questions before the project moves toward paving and permitting.
What the trail would look like
The Old Kings Road South Multi-Use Trail is planned as a 4.2-mile shared use path that would be 12 feet wide and paved. According to county engineering staff, the trail would stretch from the Flagler-Volusia county borderline northward to Old Kings Elementary School, providing a continuous off-road connection along that corridor.
“This will be a great opportunity for residents and visitors to learn about the project, and get answers to specific questions. They will be able to see the full 4.2-mile stretch of the proposed 12-foot-wide trail that will connect the Flagler-Volusia borderline to Old Kings Elementary School.”
— Amy Stroger, Engineering Project Manager, Flagler County
What will be presented at the open house
Staff will display what is called a 60% design gallery — a technical drawing that represents the project at roughly the midpoint of the design process. This level of design is detailed enough to show how the path will be laid out for paving and permitting purposes, while still allowing for adjustments based on public feedback. Flagler County Engineering staff and representatives from the project’s engineering firm will be on hand to answer questions and take input from attendees.
Why it matters
The trail falls along one of the county’s major north-south corridors and would connect two county boundaries while passing near a local elementary school. Projects like this are typically part of broader efforts to expand safe options for walking, cycling, and other non-motorized travel in Flagler County. No vote or formal action is required at this open house — it is a public information and input event.
