FPC Bulldogs Dominate in Wrestling and Weightlifting as Winter Sports Head Into Postseason

Flagler Palm Coast High School athletes had a busy week as winter sports moved into postseason competition and spring sports began warming up with preseason events. The week of January 26 through February 1 featured major accomplishments in wrestling and girls’ weightlifting, with over 1,500 spectators and 750 student-athletes attending events on Bulldog Drive.

Girls Weightlifting

The FPC girls’ weightlifting team continued its championship run by finishing as the Region 2-3A runner-up on January 31 in both the Olympic and Traditional divisions. The team hosted the regional meet at the FPC gymnasium.

Nya Williams captured an individual championship in the 119-pound weight class. Williams will advance to the state competition along with teammates Alexcia, Aaradhana, Lily, and Brianna, who all qualified as state competitors.

The regional results followed the team’s District 3-3A Championship victory on January 24 at Creekside High School in St. Johns. In that meet, the Bulldogs claimed the district title with a 52-point team score in Traditional lifting and a 57-point team score in Olympic lifting.

At the district meet, Nya Williams dominated the 119-pound class with a 335-pound combined lift in Traditional and a 355-pound total in Olympic to win both individual titles. Lynnsie Jones also captured a district title in the 183-pound class with a 295-pound combined lift in Traditional.

Wrestling

The boys wrestling team hosted the 40th Annual Flagler Rotary Invitational on January 31 and February 1 at the Anderson Athletic Center. The Bulldogs racked up 220 team points and finished as tournament runner-up.

Junior Trey Twilley brought home the 132-pound title and was named the tournament’s Outstanding Wrestler for his performance.

Looking Ahead

Winter sports are heading into postseason play this week, while spring sports’ preseason classics are getting underway. FPC Athletics encouraged fans to attend upcoming competitions at the school to support the Bulldogs.
