Deputies Arrest Man Who Shoplifted Over $1,600 of Trading Cards
On Friday evening, deputies responded to a reported shoplifting at Target in Palm Coast. Before deputies’ arrival, Target employees had reported that a black male wearing a black tank top and khaki shorts was seen taking multiple boxes of trading cards and walking out of the store without making payment, before leaving in a silver Nissan Altima.
Deputies located the vehicle on East Moody Boulevard. When deputies got behind the vehicle, it made a sudden lane change and pulled into the parking lot of Stor-It Self Storage. There, deputies conducted a felony traffic stop and detained the driver, who matched the suspect description and was later identified as Thomas Singleton, 46, of Bunnell.
During a search of the vehicle, deputies located 38 boxes of NBA and NFL trading cards in the trunk. Deputies returned the stolen items to Target, where employees determined the value of the stolen merchandise was $1,694.55. Deputies also located methamphetamine in the backseat of the vehicle.
Deputies arrested Singleton for shoplifting – grand theft ($750 to $5,000) and possession of methamphetamine. He was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, where he was later released on a $4,000 bond.

“There’s a lot of money in trading cards, but this guy thought he could take them for free,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “Whether he was trying to add to his collection or turn a big profit on stolen cards, he learned that stealing is a fast trip to the Green Roof Inn. I commend our deputies for quickly finding and catching this thief.”
Deputies Arrest Man for Possessing Narcotics, Along with Sea Turtle Eggs
On Sunday morning, a deputy was conducting patrols along North Ocean Shore Boulevard in Beverly Beach when he observed a white van parked on the side of the road in front of a residence. The deputy recognized the van from a civil standby conducted in August at the same residence for Wesley Winters, 53, of Ormond Beach. Winters, who had been previously arrested for aggravated battery on a person 65 years of age or older, had been served a temporary no-contact order.
The deputy confirmed that Winters had a no-contact order, which prohibited him from being within 500 feet of the victim’s residence. The deputy approached the vehicle and found Winters sleeping in the driver’s seat. Upon waking Winters up, the deputy asked him to exit the vehicle.
As Winters was exiting, the deputy noticed several white and tan orbs, which were covered in sand, in a tray on the floorboard between Winters’ feet. The deputy immediately identified the objects as sea turtle eggs and notified the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to respond.
After the deputy had retrieved an evidence bag to package the sea turtle eggs, he noticed a marijuana bowl on the road near the driver’s door. The deputy asked Winters where the bowl came from, and Winters stated he did not know and denied that it was his. The deputy then asked Winters if he had any narcotics on his person, to which he stated, “Not that I’m aware of,” and gave the deputy consent to search him. During the search, however, the deputy located a THC vape pen in his pocket.
The deputy then detained Winters in handcuffs and searched the vehicle. Inside the vehicle, the deputy found methamphetamine, fentanyl, marijuana, and an alprazolam pill. In addition, the deputy found a handmade metal pipe and a second marijuana bowl matching the one seen in the roadway.
An FWC officer arrived and began their investigation into the possession of sea turtle eggs. Before the officer’s arrival, Winters had told the deputy the eggs were from two nests that had eroded, and he had picked up the eggs after seeing them washing down the beach. He stated that he knew the eggs were unhatched, but that he believed they were non-viable.
Deputies arrested Winters for possession of fentanyl, possession of methamphetamine, possession of alprazolam, possession of marijuana (20 grams or less), possession of drug paraphernalia, and violation of a no-contact order. Additionally, upon the conclusion of FWC’s investigation, the FWC officer arrested Winters for five misdemeanor counts of knowingly possessing 11 or fewer marine turtle eggs and five felony counts of taking, disturbing, mutilating, or destroying marine turtle eggs.

“Here’s our dumb criminal of the week, who, because an observant deputy recognized that he was violating his no-contact order, now finds himself in the Green Roof Inn on over a dozen charges after he had drugs and protected sea turtle eggs in his car!” Sheriff Staly said. “For anyone who doesn’t know, sea turtle conservation is very important in Florida, and disturbing their eggs is a serious offense.”
Winters was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, where he is being held without bond.
