Man Involved in Disturbance at Palm Coast Restaurant Arrested After Battering Deputy Sheriff
On Friday evening, deputies responded to Cantina Louie in Palm Coast after a caller reported a physical disturbance involving an intoxicated customer. According to the caller, an older male wearing a gray shirt and shorts had swung at another customer before being told to leave the restaurant.
As deputies arrived, dispatchers advised that the male was last seen walking southbound on Old Kings Road North. While searching the area, a deputy located a man matching the suspect’s description on an electric bicycle in the alley behind the Island Walk at the Palm Coast shopping plaza. As the deputy followed the man, later identified as Michael Mahon, 58, of Palm Coast, into the front parking lot of the shopping plaza, he fell off the e-bike into the bushes. At that time, the deputy exited his vehicle and approached Mahon.
The deputy explained to Mahon that deputies were conducting an investigation into a fight at Cantina Louie and that, because he matched the suspect’s description and was near the restaurant, he was being detained. However, as the deputy attempted to detain Mahon, he became belligerent and began to argue with the deputy.
As the deputy took one hand off Mahon to use his radio to notify the FCSO Communications Center that he was with the suspect, Mahon took the opportunity to push him and attempt to run away. Both the deputy and Mahon fell to the ground. Mahon then got up and ran, but tripped and fell into the service road of the parking lot. The deputy caught up to Mahon while he was on the ground and, when backup arrived, placed Mahon under arrest.
Once deputies secured Mahon, employees at Cantina Louie positively identified him as the suspect involved in the fight. Mahon was also formally trespassing on the restaurant.
Deputies arrested Mahon for battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting a law enforcement officer with violence. After being treated on-scene by the Palm Coast Fire Department for cuts to his face, hands, and knees sustained while he was trying to flee, Mahon was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility.

“This guy took a relatively minor incident and turned it into a felony. If you ever lay your hands on a deputy sheriff, I can guarantee that you’ll earn a trip to the Green Roof Inn,” said Sheriff Rick Staly.
During the investigation, deputies also determined the e-bike he was riding was stolen and, once the victim was located, Mahon was also arrested for petit theft-larceny. Mahon was unable to provide deputies with any identification but stated that his name was Michael Aelo. While at the jail, detention deputies used Rapid ID and confirmed Mahon’s identity. Mahon was additionally arrested for providing a false name to law enforcement.
He is being held at the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility without bond.
Palm Coast Man Arrested for DUI After Crash on Interstate 95
In the early morning hours on Sunday, deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash with potential injuries on Interstate 95 in Palm Coast. According to the caller, a gray Toyota was traveling in the left lane when it suddenly crossed all three lanes of traffic, spun out of control, and crashed into the woods.
When deputies arrived, they located the vehicle and the driver, later identified as Michael Gonzalez, 30, of Palm Coast. Gonzalez declined medical attention.
While speaking with deputies, Gonzalez stated that the crash occurred because he “drank too much” and that he did not remember the crash because of how much he drank. Deputies observed that Gonzalez had vomited on himself, had difficulty standing, and smelled strongly of alcohol.
Deputies opened a DUI investigation and conducted a series of field sobriety exercises, which Gonzalez failed.
Deputies arrested Gonzalez for DUI and transported him to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility. At the jail, Gonzalez provided tests of his breath. The first test indicated he had a blood alcohol content of 0.168, and the second indicated a BAC of 0.173.
“Drinking and driving is extremely dangerous, and this guy is lucky the only consequence was a trip to the Green Roof Inn and a damaged car,” said Sheriff Staly. “He was driving more than twice the legal limit, and based on the tests, he was getting drunker by the minute. He could have seriously injured or killed himself or others on the roadway by making the dangerous decision to get behind the wheel of a car and drive.”

After being medically cleared, Gonzalez was booked into the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, where he was later released on a $1,500 bond.
