On July 30, Justin Maddox was convicted and sentenced on multiple charges, including manslaughter, after an investigation by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office Major Case Unit determined he sold the fatal dose of fentanyl that contributed to the overdose death of 40-year-old Jeremy Kocorowski in March 2024.
Following Kocorowski’s death on March 28, 2024, FCSO Major Case Unit and Special Investigations Unit detectives arrested Maddox for trafficking in fentanyl, possession of cocaine, and possession of oxycodone. Over the following months, investigators determined that Maddox had supplied Kocorowski with a lethal dose of fentanyl. On November 14, 2024, Maddox was indicted by a Flagler County grand jury on a charge of first-degree murder by unlawful distribution of a controlled substance.
Maddox ultimately pleaded no contest to manslaughter, sale of fentanyl, and possession of cocaine. Following Maddox’s plea agreement, Circuit Judge Dawn Nichols found him guilty and sentenced him to 16 years in state prison.
“This poison peddler is going to spend a long time in prison for selling a fatal dose of fentanyl,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “I commend our Major Case Unit for their hard work to hold him accountable. We investigate every overdose death as a homicide. If you are a poison peddler and sell a fatal dose in Flagler County, we are coming after you.”
