David Alfin secures MedNexus expansion in Palm Coast

MedNexus, a University of North Florida initiative that offers learning and research experiences to prepare future healthcare providers and leaders, announced the creation of three academic programs in Palm Coast, according to a media release. These programs mark an expansion of UNF MedNexus’ commitment to providing cutting-edge healthcare education and training opportunities in Flagler County.

Palm Coast Mayor David Alfin shared his excitement about the impact of the new programs on the local community.

“The expansion of UNF MedNexus in Palm Coast is a significant milestone for our city,” Alfin said in the release. “These innovative programs will not only enhance educational opportunities for our residents but also address critical workforce needs in the healthcare sector, fostering a stronger, healthier community.”

The new academic offerings are a Master of Science in Nursing Leadership and Administration for nurses who want to advance their administrative career to become nurse managers, directors of nursing, or chief nursing officers; a Master of Science in Health Informatics to prepare students to harness the power of information technology to improve patient outcomes and streamline healthcare delivery; and Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing, an online program for Registered Nurses  who want to further their nursing education and expand their career opportunities by earning a bachelor of science in nursing degree.

Dr. Julie Merten, associate Dean of UNF MedNexus, expressed her enthusiasm for the launch of these new programs, which will help reduce the healthcare workforce shortages.

“We are excited to expand our academic offerings in Palm Coast and provide working professionals with the opportunity to pursue careers at the forefront of healthcare innovation,” said Julie Merten, associate dean of UNF MedNexus, in the release.  “These programs reflect our commitment to preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals to address the evolving needs of our communities.”

The programs are designed to be flexible for students with busy lives that include online coursework, concierge advising, and internships offered in Palm Coast. Scholarships are available to offset the cost of attendance, according to the release.
