Flagler County’s Unemployment Reaches 4%
Highest Local Unemployment Rate Since November 2021
PALM COAST, FL (October 20, 2023) – Flagler County’s unemployment rate increased for the sixth consecutive month to 4%, according to the September 2023 data release from Florida Commerce, up from 3.9% in August 2023.
“Flagler County’s unemployment rate increased for the six consecutive month, and is 1.2% higher than the state of Florida, which is 2.8%,” said Greg Blosé, President & CEO, Palm Coast-Flagler Regional Chamber of Commerce.
“4% is the highest unemployment rate Flagler County has seen in nearly two years; since November 2021. The unemployment rate has been gradually climbing, largely due to the increased size of the labor force. However, Flagler County does have 136 fewer residents employed, month-over-month. This is generally the time of year local hiring begins to slowdown as the peak annual tourism season has now passed.”
The number of Flagler County residents that are employed (either working in this county or another county) decreased from 51,472 in August 2023 to 51,336 in August 2023, a decrease of 136 residents.
The number of unemployed job-seeking residents in Flagler County measured at 2,126 in September 2023, up from 2,112 in August 2023, an increase of 14 residents from last month’s report.
The Flagler County labor force is reported at 53,462 residents.
